Air Duct Cleaning

Today we are almost too informed on the importance of clean air in the home. Dust pollen and other hazardous pollutants can gather in the home’s air ducts and eventually be breathed in. This can cause a wide range of problems and illnesses. Today, we are also informed of the many companies offering air duct cleaning. These companies charge up to 1000 dollars for their services and claim that your home will be safer, happier and healthier.

The home’s air ducts come with a series of component parts. If one chooses to have a private company do air duct cleaning they must make sure that they agree to clean all of the component parts as well. The parts can contain as much or even more bacteria, pollen and dust than the air duct system itself. Failure to clean these parts will just recontamination the entire system and result in money wasted.

Some companies that perform air duct cleaning will try the use of biocides. They claim that this will reduce the amount of micro organisms that will live in the air ducts. The home owner should proceed with caution before agreeing to this form of air duct cleaning. Many of these practices have not been tested fully so a complete list of results is not yet available.

The home owner should be informed honestly whether or not air duct cleaning is even necessary. Dust gathering in the heating vents does not mean that the air ducts are contaminated. It simply means that they need a quick vacuum. If no one in the household suffers from allergies and the vent are cleared with a vacuum quite frequently then it is doubtful that air duct cleaning is really necessary. If members of the family are experiencing unexplained symptoms then discuss the possibility with a doctor.

Today we are bombarded with reports about clean air inside the home. Suddenly our homes have become biohazards if everything hasn’t been cleaning properly. Air duct cleaning is needed at times. However, one must make sure that the job includes the component parts and is even needed; otherwise it is a complete waste of time and money.
