Humidity Control

Most of the world has likely heard the following saying, “It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity”. Having heard this saying over and over again has lead many to believe that it is a joke. The truth of the matter is that humidity can drastically affect how the body perceives hot and cold. High humidity makes the body feel hotter while low humidity cools the body quicker. Good humidity control is vitally important to the home and the body. Both too much and too little can create some serious humidity problems.

One does not want too little humidity in their home. If this happens physical symptoms such as sore throats and dry, itchy skin can start to arise. Lack of humidity control can also lead to more serious afflictions such as nose bleeds and sinus problems. Too little humidity can also hurt the home. Those with wood floors may notice them cracking. Wallpaper can start to peel away while paint and plaster can become damaged. Lack of humidity control can also lead to painful static shocks. Those that have pianos and other musical instruments may notice that they are falling out of tune.

Too little humidity can be serious, however too much humidity can be equally damaging. Too much humidity will make the home a breeding ground for termites and other insects. It will also make skin feel cold and clammy. Wooden floors will start to warp and paint will start to peel away from the wall. Those with allergies or asthma are at particular risk. Increased humidity increased the growth of moulds and mildews. These can be potentially dangerous to people with breathing problems.

Humidity control is vitally important to a healthy household. It is important to tackle the areas with the most humidity first. Basement humidity and crawl space humidity are especially common. Moisture gets trapped in these areas quite easily. Humidity absorbers can help reduce the amount of moisture and help with the humidity control of these areas.

Humidity control is very important if the home is to stay safe and one’s health is to stay good. The lack of humidity control can lead to some uncomfortable and downright dangerous health afflictions as well as serious damage being done to ones health. If there are already symptoms and damage being done in the home, consider humidity control. The source of the problem may be closer than originally thought.
