The concept of increasing humidity in the home seems strange to many. Humidity gets a bit of a bad reputation from weather reports associating it with heat and discomfort. While it is true that humidity can make one feel hot and bothered it is important. Humidifiers are needed in some instances to avoid damage from too much dry air. Too much humidity can be unhealthy but too little can cause serious damage as well.
Too little humidity in the home can bring about a whole series of problems. Health wise, people can suffer from throat irritation, nose bleeds, and itchy dry skin and sinus problems. The home itself can be damaged when there is too much dry air. Paint and plaster can start to crack and fall of the wall. Wallpaper can peel away and wooden floors can become cracked and damaged. Humidifiers can help offset this problem by adding more moisture to the air.
Humidifiers exist in a variety of sizes. There are room humidifiers to work in smaller sized spaces as well as house humidifiers to keep the moisture level up throughout the home. This will keep damage from occurring to the house and minimize the negative health effects of too much dry heat.
Humidifiers are not only used for the home. Quite often furnaces will have humidifiers to keep them operating smoothly. The intense heat that furnaces are exposed to many times makes furnace humidifiers necessary. This keeps the moving parts going smoothly and avoids breakdowns.
As with any home appliance, humidifiers need some love and attention. Humidifier filters need to be checked frequently. They need cleaning and changing with replacement filters. This will prolong the life of the humidifier as well as keep dust and dirt from circulating in the air.
The idea of adding moisture to the air seems like a strange concept to most people. However, humidity levels are important to keep healthy and avoid damage to the home. Many times humidifiers are needed to keep adequate moisture in the air. They are available in a variety of sizes from portable to home size. Dry air does have its advantages; however too much can e damaging. Keep the air moist with a humidifier and keep the home safe and healthy.
