Water Heaters

Homeowners today give little though about replacing heating and cooling systems in their home until of course they are no longer working. This also holds true for the home’s water heater. Unfortunately, shopping for a replacement in this manner does not always result in the best purchase for the home. When it comes to the home’s water heater there are some excellent options available. Purchasing the right type could make home life happier as well as save money in the long run.

The most popular type of water heater in the country today is the standard storage water heater. This keeps water heated constantly and can be powered by many fuel sources. The drawback to the storage water heater is that is looses heat through the unit itself. There are newer more efficient models however better options may exist.

On demand water heaters are very popular in Europe and Asia. They are quite fuel efficient because they only heat the water that is used. It also heats it instantly so the days of cold showers and baths can be gone forever. On demand water heaters reduce energy consumption by up to 30%. However, there is one drawback. The flow of water in on demand water heaters is much less than in other types. The shower may be hot but not strong.

The heat pump water heater is another option. They work like a refrigerator in reverse. They move heat from one place to another rather than making it. They do take up a lot of space and need a warm area to function in. a furnace room would be ideal as they do not operate well in cold areas.

Finally, the tank less water heater is another possibility. These require no additional storage tank and heat the water directly from the homes heating system. Tank less water heater work quite well in the colder months as the home’s heating is constantly on. However, in the warmer months when the heating is hardly ever used they do not work quite as well.

The water heater is quite important and homeowners fail to realize that there are choices. However, waiting until the current one breaks down isn’t the best way to shop.
